Kindergarten!

My baby started school today. REAL SCHOOL! Kindergarten!! How is it possible that my sweet little girl is grown up enough to spend the entire day away from me?! She’s been gone 6 hours now and I’m absolutely beside myself wondering how she’s doing. Is she hungry? Is she sleepy? Was she able to button her pants by herself after using the bathroom? What the heck is wrong with me?! She’s not two years old. She’s a big girl! She can handle Kindergarten. But can I? I miss her already. 2:45, you can’t get here fast enough!

Me : “I like the rock star vibe you’ve got going on, but can you try to make a slightly prettier face for the picture?”

Roxy : “I’m not going for ‘pretty’ mom. I’m going for ‘cool.’”

Me : “Okay, but how about Gwen Stefani style cool instead of Courtney Love style cool?”

Roxy : “This is Roxy style cool!”

The newest Q is one month old already! Maybe I should turn the “Maternity Leave” auto email responder message off now. Or … maybe not. A couple more weeks of snuggling sounds too good to pass up

Sweet baby Mars, looking oh-so-strong these days …

Okay, I know this isn’t the most flattering photo, but I just couldn’t bring myself to delete it. Anyone who’s ever been around or had a newborn knows this crazy cross-eyed face is MUCH more common than the sweet face in the photo above. I’d say 90% of the time (when she’s not asleep) she’s making some kind of wacky, scrunched up, dopey looking face. And oh how I love every goofy moment

Marley’s First Bath

There’s nothing sweeter than “baby’s first.” First smiles, first steps, first birthdays. We have so many firsts for us to look forward to this year! My middle-of-the-year resolution is to not be a lazy photographer mama. I want to try and capture as much of our daily lives as possible. Regular stuff like the kiddos reading their books, playing outside, making cupcakes and painting pictures. It’s those moments I love the most and those that are the easiest to lose track of. Hopefully I can slow down the days a little by capturing some of those moments on film.

First up … Marley’s first bath! She wasn’t sure what to think of it at first, but relaxed and seemed to really enjoy it towards the end. And afterward she was was soooo relaxed and happy. I feel the same way, Marley. Mama is a total bath girl!

I love baby feet. Expect to see lots of baby feet photos over the next few months

What’s crazier than life with two little rock stars? Life with THREE little rock stars! Yep, you heard right … Henry and I are about to be outnumbered by Q babies! Marley Mae is due in just THREE short weeks (!!!!!) and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to meet her

The last photo is soooo “us.” That Henry face … the goofy one … that’s the one I fell in love with (and I’m more in love with that goofy face now than I ever have been before!) Thanks for making me so happy, Henry I can’t wait to watch you with our new baby!

PS … if you’re wondering why there’s no Kai in any of these photos … he’s not a big fan of posing for photos, sitting or standing still for any amount of time or being out in the heat where there’s no swimming pool. So, he hung out with Jenn’s hubby CJ and their two girls, Maggie and Georgia for the day. Less stress for everyone involved, trust me. We will have a family photo shoot soon, though (with ALL of us!) And when I say soon … I mean as soon as it’s not 100 degrees outside. Soooooo … maybe December! Ha! Stay tuned!

Little League!

I was always a tomboy who loved sports. My mom wanted me to be in dance classes. I wanted to be on the basketball team. She wanted me to wear dresses. I wore sneakers I loved every single thing about playing sports … being on a team, riding the bus to games, wearing my uniform and cheering for my teammates, even the smell of the gym (as crazy as that sounds!) I remember one year my grandmother took me shopping for back-to-school clothes. She asked me “What’s in fashion right now? What are all the other girls wearing?” I thought and thought and finally said “I have no idea.” Ha! I could have told her how many points Magic Johnson had scored in the Laker game the night before, but “normal” girly stuff was just not my thing.

Skip ahead! I’ve now officially outgrown my anti-girly phase, but there’s still a part of me that misses being on a team. So what’s the next best thing? Having a kiddo on a team! Roxy’s always been pretty girly, but I could always see a little bit of sportiness in her, too. She’s always been competitive and headstrong and tough, just like mama So, as soon as Roxy turned five, I found her a sport to play … Little League! I wasn’t sure if she’d do it, though. She can be pretty shy around new people, so I decided to let her try it out and decide for herself. (I REFUSE to be one of those annoyingly pushy parents who forces their kids into things they don’t want to do.) To my surprise, she jogged right out onto the field at her first practice without any hesitation and proceeded to hit the ball right off the tee like she’d been playing for years! I couldn’t have been prouder or more excited for her. My baby girl was part of a team! The South Austin Royals. Awesome!

Two months and lots of games later, her first season just came to an end. As we headed off, away from the field, I asked if she wanted to play again next season and she said “Yeah! Of course!” Maybe she’ll stick with it. Maybe she’ll lose interest. Who knows. All I know is today, when she got her little trophy and high fived her coach, I was the proudest mama in Austin.

No Roxy in this one, but I love this picture! The little boy in the foreground is DJ, who’s quite possibly the cutest kid in the world (after Rox and Kai, of course!) By the end of the season, he was calling Roxy “sista” … so cute!

This is Jack. Roxy loves him. A lot. I don’t think he knows it, but apparently he’s her “new boyfriend.” You should see her blush every time we say his name. So. Stinkin. Cute.

This is Joshua, the hardest hitting five year old EVER! See that face? That’s his “I’m about to hit it over this wimpy Little League fence” face. Seriously!

This is Emma, one of the other girls on the team. She’s awesome! And, today is her birthday (Happy Birthday Emma!)
