The last few months have been soooooo busy and hectic for me with weddings, portraits, work work work. This past Sunday I was supposed to have a couple of engagement sessions, but the weather was looking crummy so both couples rescheduled. Then, the weather turned BEEEAUUUUTIFUL! Roxy and Kai were both overdue for haircuts and I’ve been feeling guilty about too many long hours in front of the computer, so I turned OFF the computer and we headed to South Congress to hit up some of our favorite local spots.
First I had to grab a couple of “before” pictures since we were getting their hair cut. Here’s Kai with his oh-so-cute long(ish) hair (which I actually really miss now that it’s gone
) and Rox looking very grown up …
Best friends
First stop of the day : BIRDS BARBERSHOP on South Lamar. Birds is the most AWESOME barbershop in town. Don’t believe me? Check out their sign (”Walk In, Rock Out!”) They specialize in rocker style hair, crazy colors and mohawks. I’ve been dying (no pun intended) to get my hair done here for a while now. Rox and Kai beat me to it! Ha!
Kai said he wanted a “moo-hawk” so that’s what he got! He was SOOOOO good for the girl cutting his hair. When she started up the clippers, he just couldn’t stop laughing. Henry had to hold his face to keep him from squirming as they tickled his neck. CUUUUTE!
After her haircut, Rox was bouncy and silly and ready to pose for some fun pictures while Kai was getting the finishing touches on his new “moo-hawk.”
Look! Roxy found a Tara McPherson sticker on the foosball table! Cool!
Kai, rockin’ the hawk again
LOVE THESE!
Next stop … Big Top Candy Shop, the greatest candy store on earth! We looooove this place! Blue Bell ice cream, wall-to-wall candy in all shapes, sizes and colors. It’s a calorie wonderland
Oh, Henry!
Roxy’s “Loco Face!”
As we were walking towards our next spot, we ran into these cool people on the corner singing songs. That’s something we LOVE about Austin – the music! There’s always music – everywhere you turn, every night of the week. It’s the “Live Music Capital of the World” you know
If you can’t tell from the picture of Rox and the menu above, our next stop was our FAAAVORITE pizza spot – Home Slice Pizza! The pizza at Home Slice is TO DIE FOR. Seriously. My friend (and former bride) Sara Te and I were talking the other day about the dieter’s motto “Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.” Obviously people who say that have NEVER been to Home Slice! Ha!
Roxy gives it one thumb and half a pizza slice up!
On our way back to the car we saw a couple of dandelions. We call them “wish flowers”
Next stop : TOY JOY! If you ever come to Austin – even if you don’t have kids – you HAVE to go to Toy Joy! It’s literally overflowing with toys, trinkets, robots, books, balls, jewelry, ray guns and anything else a little (or big) kid could ever want. It’s impossible to leave without buying something, so make sure you bring some dough …
Mermaid Balls! Ha!
My pretty pretty hubby
I absolutely love old style tin robots. Why? I dunno. ‘Cause they’re awesome, maybe?!
The many faces of Kai!
Because Roxy said so. That’s why …
On our way out of Toy Joy, Kai found this fun little monkey bar. He usually doesn’t stand still long enough for very many photos, but I managed to get some really good ones. How ADORABLE is my baby boy?!? You see why it’s hard for me to blog more often? I spend way too much time kissing this face …
Little boy. Big personality!
We’re a big fan of silly face photos these days
Soooooo … that’s it! I wish I had taken a picture of them falling asleep that night, but we were all too exhausted to snap any more. What a happy, amazing, fun-filled, love-filled day. Why can’t every day be a day off?
XOXO, Sarah Q
